New Coach Blog!

It’s been a minute since I last blogged. In fact, I named my coaching choices for the Razorback’s vacancy in an earlier one. Gus decided to stay at Auburn. Mike Norvell decided to stay at Memphis. So the Razorbacks settled on Chad Morris. I’ll have my thoughts on the hire later in this blog.
I have a great deal of respect for every coach because it’s a tough job. Make no mistake, I think he’s a good coach with a proven offensive track record. So in no way am I demeaning coaches in today's blog.
With that being said, the thing I hate about some members of the media is how they will try to make you feel good about the pick. If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the consolation music playing in the background while everyone is tweeting out how great a pick up this was for the Hogs. Then they try to pad the hype over the hire by using someone else’s words. Someone like a former player. When the Morris announcement hit, there were tweets from a current NFL player who played for Morris, as well as former coaches who had good things to say about him. That all sounds great, but let’s remember Houston Nutt’s former players would have done the same thing. Even former players under John L. Smith would've tweeted his praises.
Like I said, I'm not trying to bash the guy. The only thing I want to hear is he’s happy to be here and ready to work. He wasn’t the university's first or second choice: therefore he’s not the right guy. We all know it’s better to say he’s the right guy right now for the job. That would at least make me feel better about it. So stop patronizing me!
Here’s a question: Who fared best in college football when it comes to advancing their program? Texas A&M got their man! Mississippi State got their man! Florida got their man! Knowing that, did we get better than those programs or worse? Time will tell!
Final Thoughts: It’s a decent hire. I’m sure if he were reading this blog he would admit he’s got to get the job done. As fans, we were excited about the Bielema experiment too, but that ship went down fast. Almost every coach has a little cockiness in them so I’m sure he’s full of confidence right now. That's a good thing. That’s what I like. I don’t know him personally so I can’t tell you if I could trust my 18 year old to follow him. But I will say this...Based on the character of the guys who have spoken up for him, I can lean towards expecting something positive out of the selection.
