UCF Bummer

I hate to say it, but the University of Central Florida(UCF) did NOT deserve a shot in the NCAA Playoffs. Why should they? They are NOT in a Power 5 conference. In fact, they only beat one team with a winning record in their division. The AAC championship game was a shootout they won against Memphis In which the defense gave up 55 points. They needed 21 points in the 4th quarter to beat USF which is the only other ranked team they played. The Bowl Game win over Auburn was the only quality win they had, because it was against a ranked team from a Power 5 Conference. The other two wins vs ranked teams (USF & Memphis) weren’t quality wins because they weren’t in a Power 5 Conference.
Now, if the committee was putting playoff teams together after the bowl game, the win over Auburn would help them. However, Alabama’s win over Clemson would help them as well. I really think they broke the mold this year with their undefeated season, but let’s face it, they’re the modern day Boise State, cirque 06-07 and 2009-2010. It’s a lose-lose for UCF.
Not that anyone asked, but here is my recommendation. I say they load the nonconference schedule with some heavy hitters like Alabama, Ohio State, and USC. Then, they’ll have the creampuff conference schedule with non-conference wins (if it happens) to catapult them into the playoffs and give them a chance at the title.
